October in Milwaukee

Fall

We’re starting to feel a chill in the air here in Milwaukee, which means it’s time to break out the plaid and polish up your boots. This weekend I’ll be getting into the Fall mood—pulling my cool weather wardrobe out of storage, giving the apartment a little seasonal make-over, and checking off some items on my October in Milwaukee to-do list:

—Grab a coffee and cuddle up next to the fire on the Stone Creek Coffee patio, located at their newest location next to the new Radio Milwaukee studios.
—Master the art of pie-making (and if you fail, there’s always The Elegant Farmer)
—Head out to your nearest pumpkin patch
—Whip up a batch of Spoon Fork Bacon’s Pumpkin Beer Cheese Soup (love the shout-out to Wisconsin’s Mars Cheese Castle)
—Find creative inspiration in the season—whether in nature (loving these DIY pumpkin candle holders) or the fine art realm—I’m especially smitten with artist Steven Vasquez Lopez’s incredible hand-drawn works on paper, from the Some Strings Attached and Patches series.

Artist Inspired: Dürer

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Renowned German painter, printmaker and writer, Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528) is one of the most celebrated artistic figures of the Northern Renaissance. Dürer’s work has immensely contributed to the printmaking medium as an art form, his delicate prints ranging from religious scenes to exacting studies of animals and the human form. Feeling Dürer-inspired as of late—natural touches, animal motifs, and delicate black and white lines.

Colourfields

Lara Harwood
Colourfields (series II) III

I’m a fairly neutral-centered gal when it comes to clothes shopping, and have noticed lately that my drawers are being taken over by gray tee’s and tan sweaters, eek. I still love the comfy neutral go-to pieces in my wardrobe, but will definitely be making a conscious effort to let some pops of color shine through this summer, with Lara Harwood‘s dazzling prints serving as inspiration. Some recent favorites are Anthropologie’s colorful, and oh-so stackable bracelets, and the always incredible range of shades offered by Essie (if I win the lottery, my first purchase will be every shade of Essie nail polish in existence).
