I enjoyed a befittingly ghostly October run this evening. Four days and counting until the big Lakefront Discovery Run, 15k! I’ve made an attempt at training for the past few weeks, but my race day goal is simply a graceful finish!

So I recently did something a little crazy, and signed up for Milwaukee’s 15k (yes, that is 9.3 miles) Lakefront Discovery Run. I haven’t run more than 5 miles in years, and have certainly never raced so far, so this will definitely be a challenge. The race is on Saturday, Oct 27th, and I am attempting to jump into Hal Higdon’s 15k novice training program. I told myself I’d sign up for the race after watching my parents complete it last year—it looked like such a blast, most people donning Halloween costumes, and the promise of ‘malted refreshments’ at the Milwaukee Ale House after the race. A friend finally pushed me into signing up, and though I may be crawling across the finish line, it has been great motivation to get myself running every day. In any case, the race route runs right along the lakefront, so at least I’ll have a beautiful view while I trot along.
