Thanksgiving Menu

This year we’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving with the husband’s family, and I cannot wait for the delicious spread that’s sure to come, and the wonderful company of both my parents and my new extended family. This year is definitely going to bring some changes in our holiday traditions, as we navigate married life, and the combining of each of our family traditions, with those of our own.

We all have that one dish that makes Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving. Our annual family staple is known as ‘Pineapple Stuff,’ basically a sweet pineapple stuffing, and it looks like it’s my job to make it this year! I’m absolutely taken with these early 20th century menus, and the traditions that emerge! Consomme? Assorted candy, nuts and cigarettes? Love it.

What is your favorite it-isn’t-Thanksgiving-without-it dish?

Wedding Hair

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (French, 1864–1901)

Monday I’ll be going to the Neroli Salon & Spa in Milwaukee’s Third Ward for my wedding hair trial. I had originally decided on something similar to the loose updo spotted on BHLDN. But, after coming across Style Me Pretty‘s latest beauty shoot by Jose Villa, I’m enamored with the idea of tousled waves pulled partly back. Which to choose!

Wedding Palette

Raoul Dufy
The Opera, Paris, early 1930s

I am marrying a beyond wonderful guy this August, and it’s finally starting to sink in that the big day is approaching. The past year has been pretty crazy with wedding planning, and I’ve found it’s nice to have one inspiring image to go back to, in making sure the entire look and feeling of our day comes together. From the start, I immediately choose Dufy’s The Opera, Paris as inspiration for our color palette, a painting which I fell in love with while working as a curatorial intern at The Phillips Collection in D.C.
